My law firm presentation wraps around storytelling my personal journey through the practice of law while struggling with depression and addiction issues.I story-tell rather than a lecture because it creates a much more personal connection to the audience and science has shown that information is absorbed better and retained longer through a story. The law firms I have spoken at generally go with a 45-minute presentation and fifteen minutes of Q &A or a full 60 minutes of story. The takeaways I strive for are:1. The lessons I have learned about mental health stigma and overcoming it that can be applied in the law firm setting.2. The lessons I learned about managing stress while maintaining a busy law practice and lifestyle.3. How law firms can strive for and create a compassionate community within the law firm setting so that they become more invested in the stories of colleagues. I provide specific tools for this such as my “two ask rule” when we see notice a colleague who seems to be struggling. This program is flexible to fit the specific needs of the client. Firms I have previously presented at include:
Quinn Emanuel- “You blew us away. What a powerful and inspirational talk. Thank you so much. We are going to share it with all of our QE employees, and I know that it will be meaningful and touch people and help people. Thank you for being vulnerable. That is a real healing moment.” –Joseph Milowic, Partner, Quinn Emanuel Urquart & Sullivan LLP
